As an homage to its past as the owner’s childhood home, this old three-bedroom apartment, bequeathed from the owner’s parents, was redesigned to reflect the owner's deep-rooted memories. Inspired by the Japanese appreciation for spaces, this apartment features the ins and outs of a home that puts privacy, light, and shadow into spaces, forms, and textures.

Entering through the foyer, one is immediately greeted by the filtered light that seeps through a full-height screen that separates the main living space for a more private entry. A combination of reeded glass and timber strips filters the direct sunlight during the day, creating an interplay of light and shadow as you enter. This also creates privacy from the main entryway, blocking views from the neighbours into the apartment.
To maximise storage and efficiency of the layout, the wall between the existing study was hacked to create a niche for a TV cabinet with extra storage between and a small niche for display.
Instead of entering straight into the Master Bedroom, one enters through the walk-in wardrobe that was re-configured from the existing Master Bedroom, where a full-height wardrobe creates sufficient storage for the owners.
Tucked behind the full-height mirror in the walk-in wardrobe, a dedicated vanity space was carved out with ample storage spaces for towels and robes to make room for a bigger and more spacious bathroom.
